Scott+Sargeant Website Security - Your personal data, our use of SSL - & Our Bank Detail

SSL Secure

SSL:
The Scott+Sargent website uses an encrypted link between your computer and our website called 'Secure Sockets Layer' or SSL for short. SSL is used to protect your personal data. The website will automatically switch to SSL mode when it is necessary to do so. This will happen on the basket page, the checkout pages, account pages and some other website pages that request or show your personal data. We use this encrypted link because it means your personal data cannot be intercepted by an unauthorised third party in its journey across the Internet.

When running in SSL mode the URL will be prefixed with HTTPS. Web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome also display a padlock icon in the address bar to visually indicate that a HTTPS connection is in effect.

The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), and Transport Layer Security (TLS), is the most widely deployed security protocol used today. It is essentially a protocol that provides a secure channel between two machines operating over the Internet or an internal network. In today's Internet focused world, we typically see SSL in use when a web browser needs to securely connect to a web server over the insecure Internet. Technically SSL is a transparent protocol, which requires little interaction from the end user when establishing a secure session.

SSL is a protocol, and in order to use the SSL protocol organizations need a SSL Certificate. A SSL Certificate is a small data file that digitally binds a cryptographic key to your organization's details, typically:

  • The domain name, server name or hostname.
  • The company name and location.
  • In certain cases the organizational contact details.
