Magnetic Planer Knife Setting Gauge - The best knives won't perform well unless they are properly set and aligned. The built-in permanent magnets grip both the planer block and the knives while you use the integral adjustments to get the knives into perfect position - adjustable in 0.1mm increments.

Three options for setting of knives:
Positioning onto the toolholder body with marking onto the original knife; Positioning onto the toolholder body setting with one of the supplied gauges; Positioning directly onto the machine table and the toolholder body.
The new TX Planer guard can be fitted on any planer up to 650 mm wide, as the guard is mounted on the take off table but are unsuited to machines with swing away top beds
The bridge is hinged to reduce the room occupied near the operator (according to EC standards the machine guard should not occupy, more than 500 mm for surface planers and 550 mm for combined surface and thickness).
Edge planing (fig. 2):
loosen knob D and pull guard bridge out just enough to uncover just enough of teh cutter block. Always use a push stick.
Flat planing (fig. 3):
to plane a workpieces main surface, lift guard bridge upon knob E a little above workpiece thickness so to allow its passage underneath while pushing it forward with one hand and pressing it on worktable with the other one. After each pass bring workpiece back to start position passing it above the bridge that will first lower onto worktable surface then rise again up to the position previously set.

During use the guard moves up and down parallel to worktable. With planing shafts longer than 450 mm it is advisable to use a hinged version of the bridge to limit the room occupied near the operator (according to EC standards machine provided with ancillary equipment should not occupy, in addition to its proper dimensions, more space than 500 mm for surface planers and 550 mm for combined surface and thickness planers).

The TX MATIC is designed to automatically cover the planer cutter block and be very simple use. The wheel unit at the end of the aluminium bridge can be rotated in three positions on a pivot. When positioning the wheels vertically, the force of pushing the workpiece, the bridge lifts automatically to a maximum height of 75mm (in compliance with the EC standards), after the piece has passed, it returns to a safe position on the table.
When working with the piece rested against the guide, the wheels must be positioned horizontally: in this case, the force of pushing the workpiece, moves the bridge away from the fence (up to a max. travel of 100mm), and returns to the origin after the work has passed.
It is also possible to use the position of the wheels at 45 degrees with the guide inclined at 45 degrees for chamfer & bevel work.

Perfect planing results do not only require well sharpened planer knives but also their exact setting. For adjustment of the planer knives practical experiance and corresponding time was needed.
The device has been designed with permanent magents which adheres to the cutter block and not the knife, so that both hands are free for setting and tightening the knives. The setting devices don't need to be held down any more.
The knive projection may always be exactly set due to the adjustable stops 0.1mm adjustments.

Practical workpiece guiding system -
The workpiece is guided by a pressure pad and a guide for the workpiece - Both are fitted to the tip of the guard. The latter can be tilted to guide the workpiece both for flatening and edging (Fig. 1 and 2).
Pressure application to assist work -
When edging, the spring loaded guard exerts pressure in direction of the fence. After edging, it automatically covers the full length of the cutterblock in front of the fence.
Automatic lifting and lowering of the cutterblock guard

When surfacing, the cutterblock guard is lifted and guided over the wood by the guide. After surfacing it lowers itself automatically to cover the cutterblock.
Guard can be locked in position for batch jobs

When doing batch jobs, the cutterblock guard can be locked in vertical position to just accommodate the thickness of the workpiece. The cutterblock guard will return automatically to this preset position after being pressed down. (Fig. 3).
